The Franklin County Farm Bureau does many things and carries out education programs across many schools and grade levels throughout the year. One of the most popular and long-standing programs is called “Bread In A Bag”. The program highlights wheat to third grade classrooms. Farm Bureau members lead the students through the process of making bread and discuss bread’s most important ingredient…wheat. This is our way of connecting the students to their food and its source. Each student takes home a loaf of homemade whole wheat bread and the recipe to make more. Along with our “Day on the Farm” program, Bread In The Bag is an outstanding way for us to raise awareness of agriculture in general and the Franklin Farm Bureau Association.
Fall of 2024 has been another stellar season for Bread In A Bag at the Franklin County Farm Bureau Association, as they have educated and advocated with nearly 300 third-grade students and 20 teachers throughout Franklin County! They kicked off this fall at Sacred Heart School in Ottawa on November 6th and will make the final stop at Lincoln Elementary today. Bureau members say it is a joy to share their love for agriculture with some amazing students!
