An accident in Miami County injured one man and killed another man. Friday night, December 13th, about 8:20, the Paola Police Department responded to a call in the 600 block of East Peoria Street. A vehicle driven by 40-year-old Matthew Riha, of Harrisonville, Missouri was traveling eastbound on Peoria Street, left the roadway and collided with a tree. It continued in motion and collided with another tree. Riha was taken to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger in the vehicle, 30-year-old Nathanial Jacobs of Twin Lakes, Minnesota was transported to Miami County Medical Center after EMS initiated life saving measures on scene, however, Jacobs did not survive his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the Pola Police Department and they are asking any potential witnesses to the crash or anyone with information pertaining to the events preceding the crash, to contact them as soon as possible.
