Last week, the Ottawa City Commission tabled a proposed Camping Ordinance until Wednesday’s meeting, December 18th. The ordinance is aimed at keeping people from camping in public areas, such as parks, city owned space, and on the levy system, as well as in the yard of a house they may own that is condemned and have no utilities. Blessing Box Director Julie Riggins says it is directly aimed at the homeless population. She asked a pointed question to commissioners:
The commission will discuss the issue further at Wednesday’s meeting. Last week, there was talk about tabling the issue until after the winter season, however, some were concerned about putting it off too long.
