Doris Jean (Drehle) King, 84, of Ottawa, Kansas died Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Rock Creek in Ottawa.
Doris Jean was born August 7, 1940, at Great Bend, Kansas, to George and Martha (Werhahn) Drehle. They preceded her in death. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1958 and from Emporia State University in 1961. She taught school in Liberal, Kansas following her graduation from college. She married Larry E. King June 3, 1962. They moved to Ottawa in 1978. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenton, and husband, Larry. Survivors include her son, Keith A. King (Amy) and two grandchildren, Zachary and Alex.
Doris Jean was a life member of the American Association of University Women, serving as Kansas president from 1987-89. She was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa. She worked as a legal secretary for Thomas E. Gleason, Sr. and then as office manager for Franklin County Public Works. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and volunteering for the Ottawa Police Foundation as recording secretary. She also loved attending every sports activity her grandsons participated in. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Preschool or Ottawa Police Foundation DARE Camp.
Memorial Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa, KS, with interment following at Highland Cemetery. To celebrate Doris’ life, a visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church.
