Vassar – Donovan Roll Williams, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. He was born on April 25, 1937, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Paul and Margaret (Green) Williams.
Don started his career in education as a Business Teacher and Coach. He then became a Principal and eventually a school Superintendent. As he advanced in his career path, he and Dianne lived in ten different communities across Kansas. He was a member of the Topeka Baptist Church, trained and supervised security teams at several churches and taught gun safety classes. In addition to loving God, family and country, Don was a protector and provider. He had a passion for athletics, fishing in his boat, riding his Spyder motorcycle and singing hymns. He was an avid reader and a self-taught handyman.
On March 22, 1957, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life, Dianne Brumbaugh, in Plainville, Kansas. To this union, three children were born, Steven, Randall and Janice.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Margaret.
Don is survived by his wife, Dianne of 67 years; his three children, Steven Williams (Arlene) of Vassar, Randall Williams (Debbie) of Wichita and Janice Prough (John) of Wellsville; his nine grandchildren, Bryce (Lesley), Nolan (Nikki), Chase (Kelsey), Mason and Morgan Williams, Jake (Racheal) and Justin Prough, Jenna (Elijah) Barber, and Jayci (Steven) DeVito; and his eight great-grandchildren, Graham, Quinn, Reagan, Rylie, Hadlie, Brooks, Gunnar and Gavin; his three brothers, Clayton, Rodney and James Williams; his five sisters, LaVonne Werner, Paula Glick, Natalie Towns, Bunny Higgins and Debra Junkemeier.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 23 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Help House in Lyndon or the Vassar Community Center, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS 66451.
