Christmas has come and gone and what many people are left with is a huge pile of trash, overflowing their trash cans and dumpsters. But wait, instead of cramming it all in a dumpster, is there another option? Could you give that trash as a gift? Yes you can! Recycling! During the holiday season, an extra 1 million tons, that’s 2 billion pounds, of waste is produced each week in the United States. Americans generate 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day compared to any other time of the year. So how is recycling a gift? If done on a large enough scale, it could help curtail what it costs the city of Garnett to pay in landfill fees and thus keep the refuse charge on your monthly utility bill down, and from potential increases.
Break those boxes down and discard them at the Anderson County Recycling Center. The center has bins for cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, milk jugs, paper and much more. Reducing landfill waste is a cost-free way of giving the gift of turning trash into treasure to be used once again, while helping your community collectively save money. While the kids are on Christmas break, take a drive out to the recycling center. Maybe recycling can be another family Christmas tradition that might carry over into the new year. The Anderson County Recycling Center is located at the landfill just south of Garnett at 25404 NE Nebraska Road.
