Richard Woodward, 92, of Bronson, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
Richard Kenneth Woodward was born on June 2, 1932, to Benjamin Franklin Woodward and Susie (Koehn) Woodward in Moundridge, Kansas. His family moved to Bronson, Kansas in 1945, where he graduated from Bronson High School in 1951. Richard was a three sport athlete while in high school. He served a two year tour of duty in the United States Army from 1955-1957. On September 22, 1957 Richard married Barbara Ermel in the Xenia Baptist Church. Richard was a farmer and rancher in the Bronson area with his brother, Vernon, and son, Kevin. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #245 for 70 years, a charter member of the Bronson Ruritan Club and a member of the American Legion Post #385.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Susie Woodward; three brothers, Myron, Vernon and Glenn Woodward; and two sisters, Marjorie Ensminger and Lorene Hoobler.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara; one son, Kevin Woodward and wife, Sherri, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; three daughters, Karen Woodward of Leavenworth, Kansas; Lisa Oehrle of Olathe, Kansas; and Lora Niles and husband, Ray of Carl Junction, Missouri; four grandchildren, Captain (Dr.) Brett Niles and wife, Zaina, Osan Air Base in South Korea; Katie and Kellie Woodward of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and Kyle Oehrle of Andover, Kansas; one brother, Luther Woodward and wife, Hazel of Burke, Virginia; one sister-in-lae Cheryl Stewart and husband, Ivy of Cypress, Texas; and one brother-in-law, Fred Ermel of Moran, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, Kansas. The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 2, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Bronson Ruritan Club and left in care of the funeral home.
