The Kansas Highway Patrol has released its New Year’s Holiday Activity Report. The reporting period for the holiday ran from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31st, through midnight on Wednesday, January 1st. The KHP worked one non-DUI related fatal crash. People were apparently driving much safer, as there were only 12 DUI arrests state wide, compared to 29 last year. Drivers also slowing down dramatically, with only 286 speed citations, compared to 476 last year. Also, people were making sure they buckled up. Only 34 safety seat citations compared to 63 last year during the same time period. There have been no DUI related fatality crashes the last three years in Kansas, a testament to the public information campaigns about the dangers of driving intoxicated and the importance of having a designated driver if you are going to be drinking any alcohol at all.
