Evergy is preparing for the first potential cold snap and winter storm of the new year that could impact their service area. Evergy’s power plant teams start preparing for winter storms and cold weather during the fall to ensure heating for water lines, systems and buildings is all in good working order. Additionally, they ensure needed fuel is available to run the units through the winter months.
The impact of the winter storm on power outages will depend on the weather conditions. Hazardous road conditions caused by significant snow or ice would slow down any power restoration work, if necessary.
Evergy suggests you put together a home emergency kit that contains water, non perishable food, prescriptions, fresh batteries, a battery powered radio, flashlight, first aid kit and a cell phone charger, and keep cell phones charged and at full power. If you rely on electronic medical equipment, have a plan in case of extended outages.
