With the incoming snow, the City of Ottawa is asking the public to help them out a little so they can clear the snow more effectively. First, whenever possible, park vehicles in driveways, not on side streets. This ensures that snowplows can access the full width of the streets and clear them properly. Second, please clear your sidewalks, especially around high-traffic areas. This helps pedestrians safely travel and prevents ice buildup. Third, keep fire hydrants clear so they are easily accessible to the fire department. Next, help your neighbors. Assist elderly or disabled neighbors with shoveling walks and drives. When using a blower or shovel, avoid putting the snow in the street and away from the curb. Finally, the big one… BE PATIENT.
Snow removal can take time especially during a major storm. The city will prioritize main roads, emergency routes and routes near schools. Residential streets may take longer to clear, so residents should be patient and give crews time to do their work.
By taking these actions, residents can make the job easier for the snowplow crews, keep the streets safe for everyone and improve the overall efficiency of snow removal efforts.
