The man accused of killing a small child will be sentenced today, February 21st. Jason Marnell is charged in the death of his one-year-old son. Prosecutors say Jason Marnell was responsible for the injuries that one month old Waylon Marnell died from. The charges stem from a response to a medical call in Richmond on January 14th of 2024, where first responders found an unresponsive infant. He was transported to AdventHealth Ottawa and died two weeks later at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Franklin County Attorney Brandon Jones:
The child sex case is for rape, aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated solicitation of a child in cases stemming from several years ago. Jones says those charges came to their attention shortly after the homicide and were examined by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Marnell’s sentencing is scheduled for today at 2:00.
