The Ottawa Fire Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies, Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County EMS responded to a report of a traumatic injury yesterday afternoon, February 25th, around 4:00. A man was standing on the roof of a garage, just north of 9th and Locust, trimming trees with a chainsaw, when a large limb fell, striking him and causing injury. Fire fighters, EMS first responders and other personnel set up two fire ladders leading to the roof of the garage, and after securing the man to a stretcher, carefully and securely lowering him to the ground. While on the roof, it was determined that the man’s injuries were severe and a medical helicopter was requested.
The ambulance slowly transported the patient to the Prairie Spirit Trail between 9th and 10th Streets, where the helicopter landed and loaded the man safely before transporting him to an area hospital. The name of the man, his condition or the types of injuries he sustained were not released.
