An Osawatomie man accused of inappropriately touching two young girls during a sleepover, was found guilty by a Miami County jury. Twenty-eight year old Matthew Gulley was charged with two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, following the incident that took place in October of 2023 at a home in Osawatomie. Miami County Attorney Kent Harding says Gulley was sitting on a couch between the two girls when he put his arms around them and touched them inappropriately.

Defense Attorney John Boyd pointed out a number of discrepancies between the testimony of the girls at the trial and recorded interviews with police. Also, several eyewitnesses weren’t interviewed until months later and key evidence was not tested for DNA. He also says there were multiple people in the small room at the time of the reported crime, but none say they actually saw the act. Boyd stated that the case was about an unlikely story told by two little girls and a failed investigation.

Harding told the jury that the real lie in the case was that the girls made up the story. The jury agreed and found Gulley guilty of both counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. A sentencing hearing was not immediately scheduled.
