GARNETT — Although Anderson County commissioners approved a budget for next year that includes a small tax increase, it wasn’t enough for one man who attended the budget hearing. The proposed property tax increase will be less than a mill. However, Wayne Hulett of Garnett noted that in previous years, the county’s property tax levy went up sharply. He asked commissioners when the county would reduce its spending and lower taxes. Commission chairman Dudley Feuerborn replied that the county’s expenses for fuel and road materials keep going up. The county also had to include money to cover the costs of building a new jail, he said.
