BURLINGAME — Testimony in the capital murder trial of James Kraig Kahler ended this morning in Osage County District Court. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported his defense attorney Tom Haney wrapped up without calling Kahler to testify. Kahler is charged with murdering his wife Karen Kahler, their two teenage daughters, Lauren and Emily; and Karen Kahler’s grandmother Dorothy Wight at Wight’s house at Burlingame during the 2009 Thanksgiving weekend. Haney has tried to establish a defense that Kahler was unbalanced by his wife’ lesbian relationship with another woman and the breakup of their marriage. Prosecutors called witnesses to rebut the insanity defense. Both sides will make their closing arguments Thursday.
