PAOLA — Miami County is looking for state and federal money to help pay for improvements to 223rd Street and up to three county bridge projects. The county wants to snag money and grants to rebuild an eight-mile stretch of 223rd Street between Spring Hill and U.S. 69. The Miami County Republic reported the county has split the 223rd Street project into phases over several years.. If the strategy is successful, Miami County would receive $4.8 million for the road reconstruction, and provide $1.2 million to match the state and federal money. A road safety study earlier this year showed the street has a high volume of traffic on a narrow road with a lack of shoulders and steep ditches. The county will also request money on a bridge along 303rd Street east of U.S. 69 and south of Louisburg, a bridge along Crescent Hill Road south of 399th Street just north of the Linn County line, and a bridge along 399th Street east of Rockville Road near LaCygne Lake.
