LAWRENCE — The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services and officials from Douglas County and Lawrence signed a deal Wednesday that keeps the SRS office in Lawrence open. SRS secretary Rob Siedlecki told the local officials that he’ll request funds from the Legislature to keep the Lawrence and four other offices open. Under the terms of the deal, Douglas County and Lawrence will pay part of the office’s expenses to keep the office open through next year. SRS reached similar deals with Fort Scott, McPherson, Pratt and Marysville to keep those offices open, Siedlecki said.
