TOPEKA — A powerful winter storm is moving into Kansas today. However, most of the really nasty stuff will go to the north of this area, said Jared Leighton, forecaster with the Topeka office of the National Weather Service. The storm is ripping from the southwest corner, where it could dump a foot of wind-driven snow, and tracking northeast. As the storm heads northeast and temperatures get warmer, the moisture changes from snow to icy rain. Southeast of I-35 — in Franklin and Anderson counties – the moisture will likely be cold rain without much accumulation, if any of sleet or ice, he said.
