OTTAWA — The installation of the 15th Street sidewalks and bike lanes have made significant progress and are nearing completion, despite some errors made on the construction company’s part. Kansas’ Department of Transportation’s transportation enhancement, as well as the city of Ottawa, funded the project that installed sidewalks on the north and south side of 15th Street, with bike lanes in each direction, from the Prairie Spirit Trail west to Eisenhower Road. Tribal Construction had to redo the installation of some of the sidewalks failed to meet ADA handicapped-accessibility requirements. Ottawa city manager Richard Nienstedt said Ottawa and the state didn’t pay any money to correct the work.
