Garnett City Commissioners had their first look at 21 applicants for the vacant City Manager’s Post last week and set up initial Zoom Interviews for initial selections this week. Mayor Jody Cole says the League of Kansas Municipalities’ Executive Search Division had ranked each of the 21 applicants by experience, had recommended seven of those then Commissioners selected five for initial Zoom Interviews. After they thin that number down to a smaller handful, Cole says Community members would get to weigh in on the eventual selection. She says the City will invite the finalists to Garnett for a Meet-and-Greet with the Community , then will ask city employees as well as the community members, to fill out comment cards– just like they did when they hired Former City Manager Chris Weiner. Cole says it’s the same framework that led to the city hiring Weiner in 2017.
Weiner left the Post in August to take a position in Missouri. City Clerk Travis Wilson, himself an applicant for the post, has been serving as Interim City Manager since then.
