The Ottawa City Commission is taking an unusual step to accommodate the public who want to comment on a proposed housing project at 1742 South Elm. Normally the meeting on November 17th would be in the morning. However, some citizens had requested an evening meeting so they could show up to comment on the project. Commissioners Eric Crowley and Mayor Sara Caylor proposed changing the meeting time:
So, the November 17th Ottawa City Commission meeting will start at 7:00 Wednesday evening. The housing project has attracted a lot of controversy with neighbors in the area claiming, among other things, it would draw too much traffic and threaten public safety. Earlier the Ottawa Planning Commission voted four to one to approve the project, but the City Commission has the final say.
