There were some very close contests in last weeks election; but, in the end, a canvass of the election didn’t result in any surprises. Franklin County Clerk, Janet Paddock, says the amount of votes in some cases determined how long the term of office will be:
The race for mayor in several smaller communities was decided at the canvas. Chris Hutchinson elected Mayor of Princeton, Marie Seneca Mayor of Pomona, Deanna Carrol, Mayor of Lane, Karen Peters Mayor of Richmond and Lora Jean McDowell Mayor of Rantoul. Overall, only about 12% of the voters turned out for the election, below expectations of most election officials.
