We are really starting to see a lot more deer on the roads as we get deeper into the Fall. KOFO’s Jeff Brewer reports seeing four deer just of 17th an Main this morning and a herd of about 20 yesterday evening by Highland Cemetery.
The closer we get to peak mating times, the more crashes are expected. Kansas Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Manager, Gary Herman, says the deer are on the move and drivers need to make sure to use their seat belts:
Last year, Kansas saw a decrease in car-deer accidents for the first time in many years. Officials attribute that to the pandemic and fewer people being on the road. However, this year, travel is up and more accidents are expected.
