The City of Osawatomie voters passed a half-cent sales tax in the election on November 2nd. The passage of the sales tax means the city will be much more able to achieve their goals of repairing streets in their “Pave the Way” initiative. City Manager, Mike Scanlon:
Scanlon says that with the Sales Tax Revenue, which will be used exclusively for streets revenue, from the Miami County Sales tax, grants and gifts from the State of Kansas, they should have over $8 million over the course of 10 years for repair and replacement of City streets. Scanlon hopes to speed up the process and get much of it done in five years to avoid construction inflation costs.
