To no one’s surprise, the Garnett City Commission unanimously selected and appointed Garnett City Clerk, Travis Wilson, as the new, full time City Manager. Travis Wilson was born and raised in Garnett. He has remained a city resident his whole life, even when attending college. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Ottawa University
In August of 2018 Travis began his career with the City of Garnett, accepting the position of Municipal Court Clerk, as long standing Court Clerk, Colette McDonnell was retiring. While holding that position, he was promoted to Interim City Clerk/Finance Director in March 2019. He held both Municipal Court Clerk and City Clerk Positions until June of 2020 when Director of Human Resources was added to his position. In June of this year, he was promoted to Interim City Manager, when former City Manager, Chris Weiner, resigned his position.
Wilson says being City Manager was important to him as it givse him the opportunity to serve the community he grew up in; a community that has been good to him and it is the least he can do to give back and try to make a difference.
