The Garnett City Commission will meet tonight and perhaps reveal who they have chosen to take the open seat on the Commission. Commissioners Greg Gwin and Jody Cole met in Special Executive Session a week ago yesterday to discuss the candidates. The had said they would like to seat a new Commissioner before the beginning of the year. The untimely passing of Commissioner Cody Gettler created the open seat and the Commission decided to wait until after his funeral before taking applications and discussing his replacement.

The number of submitted applicants is the largest number of possible replacements among vacancy appointments that have been made in Garnett since the mid-1980’s. In recent years appointments have drawn far more interest among city residents than actual campaigns for election to one of those city posts, one of the three of which occurs each year.

Those submitting letters of interest include Michael Barnes, Jan Elsasser, Eugene Grimes, Mark Locke, Mackayla Martin, Michael Norman, Mark Powls, Paula Scott, Jason Sheahan and Nathan Wiehl.
