The Rockwood Acres Luminary display Christmas Eve brought out the giving spirit in a lot of Franklin County residents. The residents of Rockwood Acres were collecting for the Blessing Box Foundation, Hope House and Meals on Wheels. Cash donations exceeded $2,100 and hundreds of other items such as food, clothing and much more, were collected. Quite a haul for a three hour event. The Rockwood residents will present $700 apiece to the three charities in Ottawa.
Event organizer, Liza Jaworski, says the generosity of the people of Ottawa and the surrounding area was overwhelming this year and that generosity is what has kept the luminary tradition alive in Rockwood for nearly 60 years. She says the past two years have been difficult with COVID forcing them to be creative and revert back to the olden days when everyone had to pick up their own materials–from Woolworths back then– and did their own. They are hoping next year the neighborhood will be able to come together again and work as a group to put on the display. Jaworski says they will be back, hopefully bigger and better than ever next year.
