A driver led the Kansas Highway Patrol and Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies on a chase from Franklin County to Johnson County, resulting in a crash. The car chase began just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon when a Patrol Trooper attempted to pull the driver over in Franklin County but they took off at a high rate of speed. The driver of the car was traveling up to 105 miles per hour, while driving on the shoulder at times, according to Highway Patrol. Stop Sticks were deployed twice, once near Wellsville and again a few miles later, but failed to stop the car. Finally, the driver took the Gardner Road exit and crashed on the ramp. There were no serious injuries sustained in the chase or crash.

Thirty eight year old Joanna Lyons was booked into the Franklin County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding in the commission of a felony, reckless driving, driving while under the influence, third offense, interference with a law enforcement officer, and having no insurance.

Access to northbound Interstate 35 was closed for a time due to the crash.
