Quite an honor for an Anderson County High School Senior. He’s been acepted into the most prestigious Military Academy in the United States. Hayden Newton will enter West Point as a Cadet next Fall as a member of the U. S. Military Academy’s Class of 2026. He may be the first successful appointment to West Point in Anderson County History. The official announcement was made at last week’s Garnett Rotary Club Meeting, by Kansas Senator Jerry Moran. Moran said the appointment speaks well of Hayden’s parents and the entire Garnett Community. Moran, who started Newton’s Candidacy for the selection process with his Congressional Nomination, says the selection process was designated to the absolute best of candidates for the limited number of annual academy vacancies. The rigorous selection process evaluated candidates’ leadership and ability to perform strenuous, both physically and academically, as well as proven leadership positions.
The Anderson County Review says a search of Anderson County History documents yielded no other West Point Appointments from the are dating back to the settling of the Territory in the mid 1850’s.
Congratulations Hayden and good luck!
