We have an update on the fatal fire yesterday morning in the ten hundred block of Willow Street. About 3:30 yesterday morning, units from the Ottawa Fire Department and Ottawa Police Department were dispatched to a structure fire in an apartment building. The fire was contained to two units on the east end of the building, as fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. Upon entry of the building a 37-year old male from Ottawa was inside an apartment, deceased from an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.
Units with the Ottawa Police Department, Ottawa Fire Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating to determine the cause and origin of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death. Ottawa Police Chief, Adam Weingarten, says the man’s mane will not be released.
