Garnett Public Works Director, James DePriest has released projects that will be done during the first quarter of the new year. The first being a big one, a new water plant. DePriest says they are waiting on State approval on what he calls “odds and ends” for the plant. With approval, construction should start during the first three months of this year. He says to make way for the new plant, the bulk water station is being moved directly across the street from its current location. That project has already begun and the new station should be in service very soon.
After final approval from the Department of Parks and Wildlife, the City will begin relocating the park at the South Lake. The new water plant’s footprint will consume the current park. As not to eliminate any park space, the City will begin relocating the park to the south side of the lake.
Another project coming up has to do with replacing key elements of the wastewater pumps as they have outlived their expected lifespans and need to be replaced to meet EPA and KDHE standards.
