A newly elected member of the Wellsville School Board has passed away. Dave Katzer died on December 11th. He was elected to the USD 289 School Board in November’s election. The Board will now prepare to fill that position. USD 289 Superintendent, Ryan Bradbury, says the Board will discuss the vacancy at this months meeting and the format they wish to utilize. The vacancy will then be published in a newspaper and after 15 days they can fill the vacancy. He says one possibility is the Board would review applications and interested candidates at the February meeting; but, the Board has not officially set that timeline.
Any interviews done with the Board must be done in Open Session and after the interviews, the Board can meet, then vote to approve a person for the position. Bradbury says the Board will act quickly to interview those interested in the position and hopefully have a new member seated as early as possible.
