January is National Radon Action Month. Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas.
It is created by the decay of uranium and is present nearly everywhere in the world, particularly here in Kansas. Radon causes 100 times more deaths each year than carbon monoxide. The United States Surgeon General recommends all homes be tested more than once. As a matter of fact, it’s Kansas law that anyone buying a home must have it tested as part of the inspection process.
Frontier District Extension Agent, Rebeca McFarland says the test is easy:
She encourages everyone to have their house tested this month. Tests can be purchased at any Extension office and various retail locations.
