In his monthly Mid-American Business Conditions Index Survey, Creighton University Economics Professor, Ernie Goss, says the overall Index for December climbed from November and was very strong, which indicates positive growth for manufacturers. However, supply chain bottlenecks will lead to slower economic growth as we enter 2022:
More than half of supply chain managers reported the omicron COVID 19 variant slowed deliveries in December, though delivery conditions improved from November. Meanwhile, Goss says trade is strong, with exports up 20 to 25% this quarter, compared to this time last year. In terms of employment, hiring declined in December, with both regional and U. S. employment down 2.6% from pre-pandemic levels.
