Radon is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring radioactive gas found in soils across Kansas. Levels are low outside because they are diluted; but, inside a home, can build up to levels that cause serious health issues, especially lung cancer. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Frontier Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Chelsea Richmond, says all homes need to be tested. Test kits can be purchased at all K-State Extension Offices in our area. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends testing once a year.
