Rising COVID cases have forced two Miami County school districts to close their doors for a few days. Osawatomie, USD 367 will be closed until Wednesday due to staffing issues related to COVID. Prairie View, USD 363, has cancelled class for today.
The Osawatomie School Board made the decision to close at a Special Meeting last night. The two week positivity rate at the school was 6.45% at the middle school and 6.28% at the high school. Elementary school saw significantly lower numbers. The Board gave Superintendent Justin Burchette the ability to extend the closure, if needed. Burchett says Tuesday will be a professional Development Day to give them an opportunity to assess the number of staff they will have for Wednesday. Staff and students who test positive can return to school following a five-day isolation period as long as they are fever free for 24 hours and are feeling better. Burchett says the closure will give staff members who tested positive yesterday, time to get back to school on Wednesday.
