Spring Hill, USD 230 Superintendent, Wayne Burke, has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. He has served 32 years in education; 22 years in USD 230 and seven years as a Superintendent. Burke began his employment with USD 230 in 1997, serving as the Assistant High School Principal and Activities Director of Spring Hill High School for four years, the Principal for another fire years. He left the Spring Hill School District in 2006 and served as the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the Derby School District for three years. He returned to the Spring Hill School District in 2009 to serve as Assistant Superintendent, before being named the Superintendent-elect in 2014. In 20222, Burke was selected as a Kansas Superintendent of the Year finalist. In 2019, Burke was selected for the 2019 Leadership Kansas Class by the Kansas Chamber.
Spring Hill School Board President, Doug Updike, says Burke has built and led strong teams that have accomplished major initiatives during his time in the District. Those include passing the largest Bond Issue in District history; over $82 million in 2016, then the second biggest, $72 million just two years later, in 2018.
