The Pinning Ceremony for new Paola Police Chief, Eric Jenkins, was held recently. He became Chief in November, but the official Pinning Ceremony was held on January 11th. Jenkins wife, Leslie and daughter, Kennedy, helped pin the badge. Jenkins thanked his family for putting up with his busy schedule, saying he knows the job will wear on the family. He also thanked former Chief Smail for seeing his potential over nine years ago, when he was a rookie officer, as well as Chief Poore for his years of mentorship and guidance. As for his fellow officers, he assured them they have built something special in Paola and he has no doubts they can continue to serve.
Jenkins grew up in Paola. He began his law enforcement career with the City of Paola in 2007. Since then, he has served as a Master Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant and Patrol Lieutenant. In 2018 he was promoted to Administrative Captain.
