Another nominee for the Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce Awards is volunteer Wes Skillman. He puts in a lot of time with Kart Races and helping with Cornstock, the Anderson County Fair Parade, the Christmas Parade and numerous other city events. As the Fire Chief, he’s always on the go, doing storm cleanup and whatever the community needs. The person nominating him says Wes goes above and beyond for the fire department, educating himself to better perform his duties and works hard to provide a safe environment for the Community.
Then there is Joyce Martin. She worked for the City of Garnett for over 30 years and now serves as the President of the Garnett Senior Center Board, Secretary of the Walker Art Committee, assists with Meals on Wheels and does everything to provide activities for the seniors at the center, including three holiday meals a year, games and the new “take a book, borrow a book” activity. She says she enjoys visiting with those on the Meals on Wheels route and does errands for those who cannot get out to do them. She does much more in the Garnett Community and continues to serve where needed.
Congratulations to all the nominees. The winners will be announced at the Awards Banquet, Thursday night.
