Where were you 36 years ago today. Sometimes you don’t forget. KOFO’s Jeff Brewer was walking across the basketball court at Ahearn Field House on the K-State Campus, when, as he passed legendary basketball coach, Jack Hartman, he heard him talking about the Shuttle Challenger. It blew up 73 seconds after blast off, claiming the lives of the seven crew members, including Christa McAuliffe, flying as part of the Teacher in Space Program.
Along with millions of Americans, he sat glued to the TV the rest of the day, watching it over and over and listening for any new piece of information, hearing the NASA Flight Technician, who couldn’t see what had happened. His words:
President Ronald Reagan addressed the Nation and gave Tribute:
Something to think about when you see a space flight blast off today. It has become routine again; but, remember we are still pioneers in space travel and exploration.
