The Ottawa Police Department had an unusual pursuit yesterday. Just after 4:00 yesterday afternoon, a man who was in custody at the Franklin County Jail and Courthouse, decided he didn’t want to be in jail any longer. He ran from deputies at the Courthouse and managed to get away. Units from the Ottawa Police Department and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office searched for the man for nearly an hour, along Hickory Street and by the Rail Trail Bridge. Eventually, the man was found and was taken back into custody, near middle Casey’s. It’s not known if the man was handcuffed at the time he decided to run, or the charges he faced in court.
The identity of the escapee has not yet been released. New charges are likely to be filed. KOFO will have details as they become available.
