Law officers will be stepping up seat belt enforcement the end of this month around area high schools, as part of the Annual Seatbelts Are For Everyone, or SAFE Program. Anderson County Sheriff, Vern Valentine, says local officers will join others across the state, February 21st through March 4th, as part of the program. This will entail extra patrols and enforcement around schools before and after school hours, in an effort to increase seatbelt compliance. Valentine says 2022 is the ninth year for the local program.

Crest Superintendent, Shane Walter, says some Crest classes are involved in the process. The Family and Consumer Sciences Program provides lessons and educational opportunities within the classroom, including elementary and the FCCLA, STUCO ad National Honor Society have always run parallel programs.

Sheriff Valentine says local law officers would be focusing on the enforcement side, reminding people that any person not wearing their seat belt should and will be issued a citation. So, save your money and buckle up.
