The Ottawa man charged with attempted murder in the shooting of another Ottawa man was to make his first court appearance today in Franklin County District Court in front of Judge Kevin Kimball. Nineteen year old Cayson Wilson is charged with attempted second degree murder in the shooting of 36 year old Zacharie Downs of Ottawa, firing three shots at point blank range, from a stolen Ruger .9 mm handgun.
The night of February 5th, officers were called to the 500 block of North Hickory and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers applied a tourniquet to prevent further bleeding until EMS arrived. He was transported to a Kansas City area hospital.
Wilson is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated endangerment of a child, distribution of marijuana and theft. Wilson’s appearance was scheduled for 8:00 this morning, however, there have been no court documents filed regarding the hearing, at the time of this newscast.
