The Ottawa Fire Department responded to a call about %;00 yesterday afternoon. The caller reported smoke coming from a garage at 804 North Spruce in Ottawa. Upon arrival, crews found the garage fully engulfed in flames. The set to work quickly, working to protect nearby structures and were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly. Bystanders reported hearing popping sounds coming from the fire, which later was determined to be fireworks that were stored in the garage.
Ottawa Fire Chief, Tim Mathias, says no one was injured in the fire and the Ottawa Fire Investigation Team was on site yesterday to investigate the cause of the fire. He says the building, including its contents, appeared to be a total loss. No dollar estimate given on the loss. The fire remains under investigation.
