With the Kansas Legislature override of Governor Kelly’s Veto on the Congressional Redistricting map, Anderson County has a new home in the 3rd District. The map, which splits half of Wyandotte County from it traditional home in the 3rd District with Johnson County and Miami County and groups it with the huge 1st District, which runs clear to Kansas’ Western border, also reaching into Douglas County and including Lawrence in the 1st District. The new map moves Anderson and Franklin Counties from the 2nd District to the 3rd.
So, what does that mean for Anderson County? Not a lot, other than having a new congressperson and being in an overall geographically smaller district. However, some are worried about having two rural agriculturally based counties, Anderson and Franklin, lumped in with Johnson County. The 2nd District runs down the eastern portion of the state, from the Nebraska to the Oklahoma border and includes numerous smaller population counties. The 3rd District, in the new map, includes Anderson, Franklin, Miami, Johnson and part of Wyandotte Counties.
