The Third Miami County Legislative Breakfast was held Saturday in Louisburg. Representative Mark Samsel and Samantha Poetter Marshall, along with Senators Caryn Tyson and Molly Baumgartner, were on hand and one of the big questions centered around the Ad Astra 2 Congressional Redistricting Map and how it was assembled. Tyson said in order to get the proper number of people in each district, either Wyandotte County or Johnson County had to be split. She says she understands Miami County in the 3rd District, but has reservations about Franklin and Anderson County in that district.
Another topic was the big economic package signed by governor Kelly, giving nearly a billion dollars in incentives to a “mystery company”. Senator Baumgartner says she voted against the bill because she didn’t believe in voting for something that they can’t even tell you about.
Other topics include education, elections, and reducing or eliminating the state food tax. The Breakfast Series wraps up Saturday in Paola.
