As you head out on your morning commute to work or school this week, be aware that the Ottawa Police are starting a Roadway Awareness Campaign today, particularly around the schools. They will have an increased presence around the schools to make sure drivers are not distracted in any way, whether that be with cell phones or other things. They are also looking for people that are not buckled up, or speeding. Sargent Casey Gilmore of the Ottawa Police Department, would like parents to remind their teen drivers that driving is a privilege and not a right. He encourages parents to model good driving behavior.
Officers will be issuing tickets to those not following the traffic laws. Ottawa Police says the tickets are not to punish people, but to educate them on the importance of safety on the roadway.
So, when you are out and about, be extra cautious, make sure you and all your passengers are buckled up, put down the phone and slow down.
