The Kansas Department of Agriculture, Division of Conservation, has announced that Mid-States Materials received the Governor’s Mined Land Reclamation Award in January, as part of the Kansas Aggregate Producers Association. The Award recognizes companies that excel in implementing mined land reclamation and give a positive image of mining in Kansas. Mid-States Materials was recognized for work on the Plummer Creek Quarry Site near Scranton, which covers about 100 acres in Osage County. The reclamation project returned this land to be suitable for agriculture, recreation and wildlife habitat including wetland habitat with wetland vegetation transitioning to native prairie grasses.
Reclamation occurred concurrently with mining operations and was completed soon after quarrying was concluded. The Plummer Creek Quarry is a 450 acre limestone quarry with a depth of 30 to 40 feet.
