It is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas and with severe weather season upon us, the City of Garnett has a storm shelter available to the public during severe weather, located at 9th Avenue and Oak Street. It can hold up to 45 people. Other storm shelter locations in Anderson County include Colony–the shelter is attached to the Fire Station on the northeast corner at Pine Street; in Harris, the shelter is south of the Fire Station at the corner of Second and Spruce Streets; in Kincaid there are two shelters, one in the park, southwest of Intersection of K-31 Highway and Preston Street and the other at the northwest corner of First Avenue and Osage Street. In Greeley a shelter is located at the corner of Mary Street and Brown Avenue. At Welda, the shelter can be found between Scott and Kauble Avenues. In Westphalia, two shelters are available, one is north of the Fire Station on Warne Street, between Lincoln and Garrison Avenue and the other is on Fourth Avenue, east of Liberty Street, across from the small school building.
Just something to keep in mind as storm season draws closer.
