Just when you though you had enough things to worry about, another flu to be concerned abut, but this time your worry is about chickens. The Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, known as HPAI, has been detected in Franklin County in a non commercial backyard mixed species flock. With more on Avian Influenza, here’s Britt Zweygardt:
Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, lack of energy and appetite, decreased egg production, misshaped eggs, incoordination and diarrhea. The Kansas Department of Agriculture has quarantined the affected premises and will depopulate the birds to prevent possible spread of the disease. This is the first case of Avian Flu detected in Kansas. No human cases of Avian Influenza virus has been detected in the United States.
